The British Cello Society celebrates its maiden year with a premiere – the first live screening of Jacqueline du Pré: Genius and Tragedy by Allegro Films in the UK.

Introduced and narrated by Grammy-winning cellist Yo-Yo Ma, Jacqueline du Pre: Genius and Tragedy is full of candid moments off-stage and in rehearsal, together with previously unseen footage, and featuring interviews with Daniel Barenboim, Itzhak Perlman and many others. This film celebrates the life of the great cellist, whose career was cruelly cut short by multiple sclerosis at the age of only 28.

Two showings on Sunday 25th January 2026, at 2.00pm and 5.00pm, will be preceded by special pre-screening events:

2.00 PM Screening

Doors open at 1.30 PM. Event begins at 2 pm with concert performance, followed by film screening.

Performances by Hannah Roberts (Jacqueline Du Pré Professor of Cello at the Royal Academy of Music), Simon Parkin and, from among Hannah’s class of students, the Marylebone Cellos.
